FROM THE GROUND UP

There is a lot happening at the Narooma Arts Centre building site. Over the past two major ground works have been undertaken in preparation for the building construction. If you are passing on the Bowen Street side you will see the foundations of the carpark taking shape. Zauner Construction is making great progress, despite rain and additional ground clearing requirements. 

One of the project’s major objectives is employing south coast businesses and contractors. It started with Takt Studio for Architecture, based in Congo, who were selected as the architects to make the dream of the new centre into a reality. Check out their website to see the projects that they are working on across the south coast of NSW. 

Zauner Construction is committed to this objective and have been contracting south coast local trades and suppliers including Moruya Scaffolding and Bricklaying.

Each week we publish a short time-lapse reel on Instagram and FaceBook so you can watch the build as it happens. To find us search for naroomaschoolofarts and we’ll be there.

A great place to view the build is from the carpark at the side of the Kinema. On top of the recently completed new retaining wall built by Eurobodalla Shire Council (an impressive concrete curve), you can look over the site and clearly view what is happening. WORKSHOPS / EVENTS

WAGONGA INLET EN PLEIN AIR EXPERIENCE CRUISE - BOOK NOW

SATURDAY 27 SEPTEMBER  |  8am-12pm  |  Limit 8 places

Take this opportunity to cruise around the Wagonga Inlet and draw/paint from the boat. Experience the perspective of looking back onto the land with both a natural shoreline and an urban setting in the background from around the inlet. Whether for preparatory sketches for studio work or Alla Prima technique (completing a painting in a single session), join 8 like minded creatives and explore the inlet.

Four different locations from the inlet have been chosen to view and draw, with a duration of 30 minutes at each location including the Marina; Oyster Farmer’s Daughter; Black Bream point; mangroves near the bridge. Bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

This event is a part of the River of Art Festival 2025. NSoA congratulates the River of Art on reaching it’s 21st year of production. What an amazing achievement for this regional festival.

ARTS TALK

Arts Talk is back. Tuesday 30 September 2025 | 5:30pm

This month we have the amazing Cat Leach as our guest. Cat is a graphic designer and founder of the FishTank co-working hub in Narooma, and now in Batemans Bay.

The venue is to be confirmed, look out for it on our socials and in your email inbox.

We have two more Arts Talks planned before the end of the year. The next one will be the Tuesday 28 October and Saturday 29 November. Stay tuned.

Shape your new Eurobodalla Hospital

The new Eurobodalla Hospital construction is well underway, a project that will bring additional resources and services to our region. As part of the development, NSW Health Infrastructure is commissioning artworks as a major element in the build. Dr Erica Seccombe is the first artist commissioned to create artworks for the project.

Why participate? Your contribution will help shape the hospital’s look and feel, ensuring that local voices and visions are embedded in the hospital’s identity.

Erica is hosting a series of FREE drawing workshops across the region, including at the Dalmeny Community Hall on Saturday 4 October. No experience needed and all ages are welcome (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).

Festivals, prizes, flower shows … it’s Spring

River of Art and the River of Art Prize:  26 September - 6 October 2025

The Eurobodalla’s only arts festival returns for its 21st year supporting artists, fostering innovation and contributing to the region’s social, cultural and economic vitality. The Arts Trail covering 125 kms of the NSW regional coastline includes open studios, exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and live performances. Don’t miss the annual RoA Art Prize, this year it will take place at the Mechanics Institute in Moruya. Deadline for entries this year close midnight Monday 1 September.

Headland Writers Festival: 17 - 19 October 2025

The Headland Writers Festival is a celebration of storytelling, literature and ideas, held on the headland at Tathra. The festival brings together writers, poets, and thinkers to spark conversations, challenge perspectives, and inspire audiences. It is a festival with a deep connection to place - one where words meet the sea and stories shape the future.

CWA Narooma Flower Show: Saturday 13 September 2025 from 11am

The Country Women’s Association (CWA) Narooma is studying the Australian Cut Flower Industry. To support this study and promote an interest in flowers they are holding a flower show. They invite you to enter your flower arrangements in their competition in one of three categories: Senior Classes (entrants 13 years old and over); Junior Classes (up to 13 years of age) and Open Class.
