Narooma Arts Centre (NAC)

Where are we up to?

As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the Narooma Arts Centre Development Application is now on exhibition on the Eurobodalla Shire Council web portal. If you would like to view it, click on this link HERE.

Together with the architects, we are busy going through all the final details of the design.

Key steps from here:

  • Upon Development Approval, Public Works NSW will manage the tender for the NAC’s construction.

  • Successful tender bid announced.

  • Commence build.

 

ONE HUNDRED

Did you know that next year the beloved Soldier’s Memorial Hall aka the Kinema will celebrate its 100th Birthday? Woohoo!

Yep this Narooma Icon will be 100 and we need to celebrate. The Narooma School of Art Management Committee will be chatting to the wonderful Kinema Manager Jade, to discuss ideas to mark this anniversary. Do you have any ideas, great memories, old / new photos that you would like to share?

River of Art Prize 2024

Entries have closed and excitement grows as the finalist selection process takes place.

Save the date of Friday 27 September for the River of Art Prize opening. This event is the official launch of the 2024 River of Art Festival and will name the winners of this years’s prize. Come and be part of the event at the Narooma Gallery and celebrate the arts.

The Narooma School of Arts is proud to support this unique festival that belongs to all of us in the Eurobodalla Shire. Check out the full program and make your own arts journey this September.

‘ARTS TALK’

FREE EVENT: NEW WINTER TIME 4-5.30PM

TUESDAY 27 AUGUST - KURT SCHWITTERS

The NSoA regularly hosts a chat group to discuss selected artists’ works. Each session is led by one of the group who also chooses the artist. This month we focus on Kurt Schwitters, chosen by NSoA member Geoff Odgers. The group is growing, come along and chat about all things art and meet new people in a relaxed environment.

NSoA Studios and satellite venues:

If you need a space to do a workshop or a class, contact us to find out more. This month the Kindred Kollective have hired the Studios on Wednesday afternoons until 18 September and are hosting youth music workshops. 

Other NSoA activities are now taking place at NSoA outposts around town:

  • Urban Sketchers & Plein Air: NEW schedule is now up on our webpage here.

  • Meditation - Wednesdays: 9.00-10:15am Wednesdays at the FishTank in the Mid Town Arcade.

  • Board and Card Games: 1.00-4:30pm Sundays at the Narooma CWA. If you are interested in this please email for further information.

  • Thursday Art Group: 1-4pm at the Fishing Club. This group meets weekly to make their own work in a joint studio atmosphere. Feel free to pop in and meet the group, and see if you would like to join in.

  • Narooma Historical Society: Sunday 15 September. The Society meets the 3rd Sunday of the Month.

Headland Writers Festival 18 - 20 October 2024

For all those members who believe that the novel is the highest form of creative practice - put the Headland Writers Festival on your calendar. Whether you are an avid reader, or just a holiday binger, this weekend trove of literature is a must. Taking place just over our back fence in Tathra at the Tathra Hall and the Tathra Uniting Church, it starts Friday 27 October and continues through Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October 2024.

“Headland Writers Festival is a celebration of reading, writing, sharing stories and indulging the mind. Across three days in October, the spectacular Tathra Headland will serve as a backdrop to an abundance of author in-conversations, panels, workshops, poetry breakfasts, theatre and music performances.”

Gauguin’s World: Tōna Iho, Tōna Ao

Don’t miss this rich exhibition of the work of Paul Gauguin at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.

The exhibition continues until Monday 7 October 2024. Take the trip to see these unique and original works.

“Gauguin’s World: Tōna Iho, Tōna Ao offers a rare opportunity to experience the enduring art of French post-impressionist Paul Gauguin (1848–1903). Featuring many of his most recognised masterpieces, some of which were created in the Pacific region, the exhibition offers new perspectives on Gauguin’s life and work, his artistic influences and networks, as well as his historical impact and contemporary legacies.”

The NSoA Studios are available for casual bookings by groups or individuals for arts, cultural and educational activities, as well as specialty workshops.
