NOTICE OF THE NSoA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & MEMBERSHIP FEES DUE

The AGM of Narooma School of Arts and Soldiers War Memorial Hall Inc 

Tuesday 11 March 2025 at 6pm at the NSoA Studios

Please note that we may be required to host the AGM at another venue. If this is the case we will email all members with plenty of notice.

Along with the usual business for the AGM it will include be a motion to make a small change to the Constitution to bring it in line with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and Australian Taxation Office requirements.

We are looking for members to join the Management Committee. We are a dynamic team working on the building project as well as managing the organisation. We welcome you to contribute your skills and participate in keeping the arts a vital part of the Narooma community. The Management Committee and sub committee meetings are monthly. NSoA annul Membership Fees are due. You need to be a current paid member to be eligible to vote at the AGM.

NAROOMA GALLERY

Exhibition call out: Transiting, 20 February - 2 March 2025 

We are farewelling our little gallery with a last huzzah with an exhibition titled ‘Transiting’, The exhibition is open to members and non-members. In 2025 the gallery will be transformed into a more spacious and contemporary gallery, scheduled to open in 2026.

Entry fee: Members $20 | Non Members $30

Size limit no larger than 1m square and exhibitors must be available to sit the gallery for a minimum of either a morning or afternoon session.

ARTS TALK

Arts Talk will return in 2025. We have a special guest Professor Helen Ennis coming to do a talk about her new book, Max Dupain: A Portrait. Professor Ennis’ talk on photographer Olive Cotton, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd and we expect this to be the same. Ennis is a writer and speaker of great clarity, insight and compassion and gives us a fascinating view and perspective on Australia’s significant photographers.

As the Arts Talk program is scheduled, we will provide more information in upcoming newsletters, Face Book and Instagram.

• Narooma Historical Society: Next meeting Sunday 16 February 2025.  This meeting will discuss ideas for their April/May exhibition for the National Trust Australian Heritage Festival in April/May. The theme is ‘Unearthed’ - revealing the past, bringing to light lesser-known histories and stories, and unearthing knowledge to empower younger generations as custodians of culture and tradition.. ARTS IN THE SHIRE

Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award 2024

South East Centre for Contemporary Art - SECCA, has announced the finalists for the 2024 Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award. One of Australia’s richest awards for realistic portraiture, the biennial award celebrates portraiture in memory of the dedicated arts patron and supporter, Shirley Hannan. The $50,000 non-acquisitive award attracts hundreds of entries from many of Australia’s most respected artists.

Exhibition continues until Saturday 1 Feb 2025.

Basil Sellers Art Prize 2024

The Basil Sellers Art Prize 2024 is open at the BAS Gallery in Moruya until Saturday 1 Feb 2025. Make sure you visit before it closes.

Art Central Moruya

Art Central Moruya is presenting an  Art History Lecture Series – Four Great Paintings in Four Weeks hosted by Cath Bowdler. Bowdler has been a curator, academic and arts administrator and was one of the guest judges of the 2024 River of Art Prize. In this series she will take an in-depth look at four significant paintings, exploring their art historical, philosophical and cultural context.

Sculpture Bermagui 8 - 16 March 2025

Sculpture Bermagui will open on 8 March 2025. Entries are now closed but keep an eye on the socials or check their website for full details. This is the Far South Coast’s signature sculpture prize and each year features a range of established and known artists, alongside new and emerging artists.

The Kinema

The Kinema is Narooma’s much loved independent cinema. They have a fantastic program of new releases, art house and independent films, along with live performances and events. Support the Kinema this summer and take your family and friends to see a movie in the heritage listed hall.
