Your privacy is important

This statement outlines the Narooma School of Arts and Soldiers’ War Memorial Hall’s policy on how the Association uses and manages personal information provided to or collected by it.

The Narooma School of Arts is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act and is compliant with the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012.

The Narooma School of Arts may, from time to time, review and update this Privacy Policy to take account of new laws and technology, changes to the Narooma School of Arts’ operations and practices and to make sure it remains appropriate to the changing legal environment.

This privacy policy assumes that you are resident in Australia.

What kind of personal information does the Narooma School of Arts collect and how does the Association collect it?

The type of information the Narooma School of Arts collects and holds includes (but is not limited to):

  • Personal information about you

    • Name

    • Postal, residential and email address

    • Contact phone numbers

  • Sensitive information about you only when such information is a requirement for participation in an activity organised by or sponsored by the Narooma School of Arts. For example, information about your fitness when you enrol in an activity requiring a specified level of fitness.

The Narooma School of Arts will generally collect personal information held about you when you apply to become a member of the Association or when you enrol in an activity, event, course or workshop organised by or sponsored by the Narooma School of Arts.

How will the Narooma School of Arts use the personal information about you?

The Narooma School of Arts will use personal information it collects from you for the primary purpose of collection, and for such other secondary purposes that are related to the primary purpose of collection and reasonably expected, or to which you have consented.

The Narooma School of Arts will use the personal information you have provided to inform you of Narooma School of Arts activities, events, courses and workshops. Generally, this communication will be via email. You may choose to opt out of receiving this information at any time by contacting the Secretary (info@naroomaschoolofarts.com.au).

We may use video surveillance for security purposes and the footage will be used only by the Narooma School of Arts and by the providers of our security services for security purposes. Surveillance videos are not used by the Narooma School of Arts for other purposes and the footage is not publicly available. Surveillance cameras are not located in any bathrooms or change room facilities.

Who might the Narooma School of Arts disclose personal information to?

The Narooma School of Arts may disclose personal information, including sensitive information, held about an individual to:

  • Government departments when required to by law

  • People providing services such as an activity, event, course, or workshop to the Narooma School of Arts, for example, tutors or course organisers only when you provide such information when you enrol in an activity, event, course or workshop.

  • Anyone you authorise the Narooma School of Arts to disclose information to.

How does the Narooma School of Arts treat sensitive information?

In referring to ‘sensitive information’, the Association means:

‘Information relating to a person’s racial ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, trade union or other professional or trade association membership, sexual orientation or criminal record, that is also personal information, and health information about an individual’

Sensitive information will be used and disclosed only for the purpose for which it was provided or a directly related secondary purpose, unless you agree otherwise, or the use or disclosure of the sensitive information is allowed by law.

Management and security of personal information

The Narooma School of Arts is required to respect the confidentiality of personal information and the privacy of individuals.

The Association has in place steps to protect the personal information the Association holds from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification, interference or disclosure by use of various methods including locked storage of paper records and passworded access rights to computerised records.

Personal information may be stored using cloud services such as but not limited to Dropbox, OneDrive or iCloud. All information will be password protected and only accessible by members of the Narooma School of Arts Management Committee.

Updating personal information

The Narooma School of Arts endeavours to ensure that the personal information it holds is accurate, complete and up to date. A person may seek to view and update their personal information held by contacting the Secretary at any time. (info@naroomaschoolofarts.com.au).

The Australian Privacy Principles require the Narooma School of Arts not to store personal information longer than necessary.

You have the right to check what personal information the Narooma School of Arts holds about you.

How long will the Narooma School of Arts keep my information?

If a member of the Association resigns or does not renew their membership their personal information will be destroyed within a reasonable timeframe of their resignation or failure to renew their membership.

Personal information obtained when a person enrols in an activity, event, course or workshop will be destroyed within a reasonable timeframe following the competition of the activity, event, course or workshop.
