Narooma Gallery Hire Conditions

  1. Rental fees all GST inclusive

Members:

  • $120.00 week

  • $40.00 day

  • $20.00 if exhibition is extended beyond a regular week e.g. 10 days

Non Members:

  • $140.00 week

  • $50.00 day

  • $25.00 if exhibition is extended beyond a regular week e.g. 10 days

Bond:

  • $100.00 (no GST) payable upon booking confirmation.

2. The bond is required at the time the balance of the hire fee is paid, i.e.one month before the exhibition start date. The bond will be returned in full or in part by direct deposit within 14 days, after an inspection of the premises at 3pm on the closing day.


3. If a booking is made less than one month in advance, of an exhibition, the full fee & bond are required upon signing the contract.


4. Additional services if required are available for a fee:

  • $40 (GST inc) /day for an exhibition minder;

$50 (GST inc) for an external cleaner.

5. The Gallery can be booked for up to four weeks for any one exhibition. There is a limit of two solo exhibitions per year during peak season, group exhibitions excepted, and with the proviso that the second booking cannot be made before commencement of the first exhibition.

6. The hiring week is from 12pm Wednesday until 3pm Tuesday the following week.

7.  A NSoA Gallery and Workshop Committee member will induct the exhibitor to the Gallery space, gallery hanging and lighting systems and review the Gallery Hazard Risk Assessment. Do not commence installation without an induction.

8. Exhibition install and de-install (take-down) are the responsibility of the Exhibitor(s). Exhibitor(s) will need to supply their own set up equipment specific to their display. Exhibitor(s) are responsible for minding the exhibition (unless otherwise arranged), and cleaning the gallery and kitchen.

9. Exhibitors need to supply:

  • Point of Sale facility i.e.: cash tin, or mobile credit card device. The NSoA does not take commission on sales and is not involved in the financial process of sales.

  • Mobile phone – there is no phone at the gallery

  • Dish towels for utensil drying

  • Disposable or own catering utensils and serving dishes/glassware etc

10. The Narooma Gallery encourages exhibitors to open the Gallery between 10am – 4pm. Exhibition hours can be set by the exhibitor and we ask that you provide us with the nominated hours for promotion purposes. Include any anticipated breaks such as lunch breaks where you will close the Gallery.

11. We encourage Exhibitors to keep all works (even sold works) on display until the end of the exhibition. We understand that due to the high volume of tourists some buyers may want to take their purchased works with them at time of sale. Should this occur please endeavour to replace works where possible so that gallery visitors continue to have an optimum exhibition experience.

12. Exhibitors are responsible for ensuring that the sold works are distributed/delivered to the purchasers as soon as possible and no works are left at the premises at the end of the exhibition. There is no storage of works at the gallery beyond the exhibition booking dates.

13. All property of the Exhibitor(s) and any rubbish accumulated during the exhibition must be removed from the premises at the completion of the booking period.

14. The Narooma School of Arts covers the Narooma Gallery space for Public Liability Insurance. Exhibitors need their own insurance for damage or theft of the works on display  and in transit, and take full responsibility for its safekeeping.

15. Exhibiting artists will be responsible for the design artwork, printing and distribution of all relevant promotional material.

16. Innovative and challenging exhibitions are encouraged, however the Narooma Gallery retains the right to reject any artwork that is deemed inappropriate or offensive. The exhibition should not be disrespectful – racist or discriminatory, it must not be denigrating, pornographic, and not made from bodily fluids.

17. Gallery attendance sheets/comment book are provided by the gallery and will remain the property of the NSoA. Artists can request a copy of visitor numbers and/or comments, if requested.

Promoting your exhibition

The following information is to assist you in promoting your exhibition at the Narooma Gallery.

Write a short article about your exhibition. Your proposal in your application is a good place to start. The article should include:

  • the title of your exhibition

  • your name or the names of all exhibiting artists

  • the dates the exhibition is open to the public - start and end dates only

  • information about the work; what are the ideas, themes that inspired the work, what story are you trying to tell, what research you undertook

  • a short biography of you or the group, it can include previous exhibitions you have participated in, any art collections that your work is included in, where you live and practice your art

  • 2 - 3 digital images of your work

  • a head and shoulders image of you and other participating artists

Create a layout for the invitation, flyers, and 2 x A3 posters. Create a PDF and JPEG of the layout for distribution by electronic media and print out flyers and posters for use at the gallery and other distribution points around Narooma.

The Gallery is open to applications from artists, designers, crafts people, curators, guilds, associations and for group and solo exhibitions.
