Narooma Gallery
The old Narooma Gallery has been demolished and construction begun of the new Narooma Arts Centre. The Centre will include a new larger and professional Narooma Gallery with an office space, store room and will be adjacent to studio spaces and amenities.
The gallery will significantly increase the wall and floor display area and will be a versatile space with moveable walls to provide distinct exhibition spaces. The Narooma School of Arts put the brief out to tender and were delighted to award the architectural design to TAKT Studio for Architecture, based in the Eurobodalla. They have created a thoughtful, considered and unique design for the Centre, making the gallery a place that will draw audiences and artists from Narooma, it’s surrounds and beyond. Takt describes their design as:
“The site, already a hub of the arts, has been long under-utilised. Embracing the Kinema (Memorial Hall), the proposal is to create a single level creative precinct, consisting of two contrasting major functions - the Art Gallery, engaging with the earth, enclosed and introspective, and the Art Studios, open, perched, connected to the view, the breeze, the sky.”
